Greensboro, NC 27403
Interning with the Greensboro Sports Commission, a small non-profit charged with attracting and facilitating sporting events on behalf of the City of Greensboro that produce a positive economic impact, the student intern is likely to be engaged in various phases of event research and planning, documentation and promotional material preparation, in-office telephone and electronic communications, on-site event management and facility operations support, occasionally attending planning and logistics meetings, volunteer management, and interfacing with other professionals in the tourism and hospitality industry.
The Sports Commission offers many office duties/tasks, but is constantly adapting to the needs of and preparations for upcoming events. Previous projects/events that our interns have had involvement with include the following: United States Figure Skating Championships; American Cup; Flip Force Gymnastics Invitational; North Carolina High School Athletic Association Western Regional Basketball and State Wrestling tournaments; Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s and Men’s Basketball and Women’s Golf tournaments; Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s and Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships; Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame, and the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championship.
The intern will be viewed as a member of the team and gain valuable insight into all of the moving parts associated with sporting events. Of great importance will be developing professional skills, eagerness and willingness to assist, effective oral and written communication, problem solving, dependability, trustworthiness, and quality customer care. The intern will be provided exposure to a wide variety of events and therefore have an opportunity to learn about themselves as well as others. Finally, the intern will learn to be confident as a representative of Greensboro and the Sports Commission as we service both participants and spectators at our sporting events.
All internships with the Sports Commission will be unpaid; although, interns will gain very valuable experience and exposure to the travel and tourism industry primarily involving the youth sports market.
The Greensboro Sports Commission selects 2-3 interns usually 2 months prior to the start of the fall, spring, or summer semester. If interested in an internship with the Greensboro Sports Commission, please email a cover letter and resume to Kayla Adams at email@example.com.
